NEW YORK – Quartier Con Edison // non construit

USA - New York 2001 Competition

Throughout the Con Edison project, Christian de Portzamparc transposes his « open block » theory and experience. Originally horizontal, the open block becomes vertical. Located on Manhattan’s First avenue, along the East River, the Con Edison’s building-plot constitute the island’s biggest undeveloped site. Following New York’s grid and heights of blocks, using a block space to install a great « piazza » and a terraced public square facing the river, the project frees the great heights’ perspectives to accommodate the much sought-after apartments.
